India, Cambodia in discussions to start direct flights

Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanhartih while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit meetings acknowledged the issue of connectivity between the two countries, adding that talks are underway for establishing direct air connectivity between Indian cities New Delhi and Bodhgaya with Phnom Penh.

“Many people in Cambodia want to go to India and that is why we are discussing direct flight between our countries. There is a choice of two flights, Phohm Pen to New Delhi and to Bodhgaya between Phohm Penh to Bodhgaya. Two flights we are discussing because a lot of Cambodians visit every year mostly old people they go there,” Kanharith said, according to ANI.

He further added that there was already an agreement with Thailand and Vietnam in which those who have the visas for the two countries could also travel to Cambodia and vice versa.
“There is a lot of tradition in India, a lot of our roots are in India,” the Cambodian minister said.
He further added that a lot of Cambodians are interested in visiting India to explore their roots and explore the land of Mahabharata and Ramayana. He further lauded India's contributions to the restoration work of some ancient temples in Cambodia.
